Overview

The Phlebotomy 3 Days Practical Course at CSM Academy is designed to equip participants with theoretical knowledge and skills to perform safe and effective venepuncture on adults. This comprehensive course familiarises participants with all aspects of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and infection control.

Phlebotomy is a crucial skill in the medical field, involving the safe extraction of blood for tests, transfusions, or donations. In Singapore, organizations like the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) ensure that blood collection practices meet the highest safety standards.

Curriculum

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be able to:

  1. Infection Control: State the basic principles in infection control and safe patient handling.
  2. PPE Usage: Demonstrate the steps in donning and removing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  3. Venepuncture Technique: Perform the correct technique in venepuncture and collection of blood specimens, including accessing challenging veins.
  4. Complications Management: Describe the complications related to venepuncture and its management (e.g., hematomas, nerve damage).
  5. Specimen Handling: Demonstrate safe handling of specimens and proper documentation.

Course Details

Special Requirements

  • All participants must undergo a Hepatitis B and C and HIV screening before the commencement of the course.
  • Those who test positive for any of these will NOT be allowed to attend the course, as it involves handling sharps and blood.

Fees

  • Application Fee: $50.00 (Non-refundable)
  • Course Fee: $750.00 (before GST)
  • Clinical Placement (OJT) Fee: $350.00 (Optional; waived if you have a preferred clinic for the 30-draw practical training)

Total Course Fees (inclusive of GST):

  • With Clinical Placement: $1,253.50
  • Without Clinical Placement: $872.00
