1 – Research Methods, Appraisals and Statistics

This foundational unit empowers nurses to integrate evidence-based practice into clinical care, enhancing decision-making and patient outcomes. Through inquiry-based learning, you’ll explore real-world case studies and research to solve clinical challenges and expand your professional knowledge.

Students gain practical skills in evaluating current clinical practices using an evidence-based framework, while also being introduced to key research methodologies—qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods. The unit also covers the research process and ethical considerations, including the Ethics Guidelines for Human Biomedical Research (2021), ensuring you are equipped to conduct research responsibly in Singapore’s healthcare context.

2 – Teaching and Learning

Grounded in the Singapore Nurses Board (SNB) Standards for Clinical Nursing Education (2022) and the Standards for Advanced Practice Nursing Clinical Education (2022), the unit ensures alignment with national expectations for excellence in nursing education. Students also engage with the SNB Code for Nurses and Midwives (2018) to deepen their understanding of professional responsibility in mentoring others and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Whether you’re guiding students, supporting peers or educating patients, this unit prepares you to lead with confidence and elevate patient care through education.

3 – Health Assessment and Clinical Decision Making
Emphasis is placed on the importance of interprofessional collaboration within the broader healthcare team and A-E assessment. Students will incorporate critical thinking to assist decision-making and delivery of care to patients with multiple co-morbidities. The use of AI to support clinical decision making is investigated.

4 – Health Care Ethics and Law

Singapore’s diverse population presents complex ethical considerations in clinical practice. This unit provides students with a strong foundation in healthcare law and ethics, enabling informed and responsible decision-making across varied care settings.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, new ethical challenges emerge. This unit encourages critical thinking and adaptability to address evolving dilemmas, ensuring nurses remain confident and competent in navigating the future of care.

5 – Leadership, Governance And Organisational Culture

Students explore mechanisms to advance their leadership capabilities, policy comprehension, and organizational culture building in this unit. The unit equips them to enhance nursing practice and patient outcomes, driving progress within the nursing profession and healthcare systems.

6 –  Mental Health and Wellness Nursing

This unit explores common mental health conditions, including affective, stress-related, psychotic, and personality disorders. It covers key assessment techniques, pharmacological and therapeutic interventions, and examines the ethical and legal frameworks that guide mental health care. The focus is on building practical knowledge to support safe, compassionate evidence-based nursing practice.

7 – Chronic Conditions and Supportive Care

This unit focuses on global chronic disease trends and nurse-led support. It explores interprofessional, person-centered care across the lifespan, including ageing, legal, ethical, and palliative care perspectives.

8 – Nursing Older People

Singapore’s ageing population demands skilled nurses. The unit equips students with theoretical and clinical knowledge for older adult care. It will also examine how AI can support nurses by analysing health data, predicting risks, and personalizing care plans, enhancing holistic care for the ageing population.
