Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology

This diploma aims to equip you with a sound understanding of structures and systems of a human body as the Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology is the foundation upon which all other Complementary, Beauty and Sports Therapy awards are based.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will have a comprehensive knowledge of diseases and disorders of the human body so that they are aware of when to and when not to treat a client, and only operate within certain parameters.

  • ITEC is a leading international specialist examination board, providing quality qualifications in Beauty & Spa Therapy, Hairdressing, Complementary Therapies, Sports & Fitness Training and Customer Service.
  • ITEC is approved as an Awarding Organisation (AO) in the UK. As such all QCF qualifications are approved on the Qualifications Credit Framework.

Course Duration

Full time: 2 months (3-hour lessons/day, 5 days/week)
Part time: 4 months (3-hour lessons/day, 3 days/week)

Course Structure

There are a total of 11 units to be completed and passed for the award of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology.

Course Module and Synopsis

Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology comprises Units 30 – 40 and are listed below.


Skeletal System

This module is to understand and explain the functions of skeletal system, the structure of bone tissues, types of bone, position of the bones of the skeleton, different types of joints, give possible causes of postural deformities, recognise the symptoms, causes and effects of the following diseases and disorders of the skeletal system.

Muscular system
This module is to understand and explain the structure and function of the different types of muscle with examples, structure and function of the various attachments of muscles, terms in relation to the muscular system, muscular contraction, formation of lactic acid, action of muscles, the cause and effect of the muscular conditions.

Skin
This module is to understand and explain the position and function of the skins, recognise skin types, skin diseases and disorders and when they are contraindicated to treatment, different skin cancers and their possible causes.

The Cell
This module is to understand and explain the structures of the cell and their function, the process, the term histology, types of tissue in the body, how substances enter and leave the cell.

Circulatory and Lymphatic systems
This module is to understand and explain the structure and function of blood and its components, the main arteries and veins of the body, function of the various parts of the heart and of the vessels entering and leaving the heart, the pulmonary circulation, the systemic circulation, blood pressure and pulse, the conditions of high and low blood pressure, the diseases and disorders of the circulatory system, the structure and functions of the Lymph, function of the lymphatic system, Lymphatic tissue, position of the lymph nodes of the body, interrelationship between the circulatory/lymphatic systems and the muscular, digestive and immune systems, diseases and disorders of the lymphatic system.

Neurological system
This module is to understand and explain the structure and functions of the following parts of the nervous system, structure and functions of the Central Nervous System (CNS), the Peripheral and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), effect of stress on the nervous system, the structure and function of the brain and spinal cord, how a nerve impulse is created, position and function of the spinal and cranial nerves, explain the Olfactory system, the causes and effects of diseases and disorders of the nervous system.

Endocrine system
This module is to understand and explain the position of the main Endocrine glands, hormones secreted and the result of hypo and hyper secretion, effects of hormones on the body, endocrine system with other systems, causes and effects of various endocrine diseases and disorders.

Respiratory system
This module is to understand and explain the structure of the respiratory system and the function of each organ, external respiration, i.e. the process and mechanism of breathing, internal respiration chemical control of the respiration, nervous control of respiration, structure and function of the pulmonary circulation, interrelationship of the respiratory system with other systems of the body, causes and effects of diseases and disorders of the respiratory system.

Digestive system
This module is to understand and explain the structure and function of the organs and accessory organs of the digestive system, function of digestion, process by which food stuffs are broken down as they pass through the alimentary canal during the digestive process, process of absorption of nutrients, function and where in the digestive system you would find, interrelationship of the digestive system with other systems of the body, causes and symptoms of the following diseases and disorders of the Digestive system.

Urinary system
This module is to understand and explain the structure and function of the organs of the urinary system, the process of filtration, explain the composition of urine, explain urine production, the interrelationship of the urinary system with other body systems, the causes and effects of the disorders and diseases of the Urinary system.

Reproductive system
This module is to understand and explain the structure and function of hte male and female reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle, the structure and function of the breast, causes and effects of the diseases and disorders of the Reproductive system.

Course Learning Objectives

  • To provide skills at Level 3 in the National Qualification Framework for those interested in the Beauty, Complementary and Sports Therapy Industry
  • To provide opportunities for staff in the Beauty, Complementary and Sports Therapy Industry to gain a Level 3 qualification
  • To qualify candidates as Beauty, Complementary or Sports Therapists at Level 3 in Industry
  • To sustain the interest of Candidates wanting to work in the Beauty, Complementary or Sports Therapy Industry
  • To encourage knowledge and understanding for the Beauty, Complementary or Sports Therapy Industry at Level 3

Graduation Requirements and Awards

To graduate, you need to pass the examination marked by ITEC. Upon meeting all graduation requirements, you will be conferred Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology by ITEC.

Local students must achieve an attendance of 75% and international students must achieve an attendance of 90% in any month of the course

Upon receipt of your signed Letter of Acceptance, you will be required to bring the original certificates for verification and to sign the student contract and follow by course fee payment.

International Students

  • Bank balance to show a minimum of S$30,000 for students from visa-required countries (China, India etc)

Upon receipt of your signed Letter of Acceptance, CSM Academy will proceed to submit your Student’s Pass application via SOLAR+ to Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). You will know of the outcome within 1 – 2 months.

Step 6: Payment of Programme Fees
Once your Student Pass application is approved-in-principle by ICA, you will be required to bring the original certificates for verification and to sign the student contract and follow by course fee payment.
